May 26 – The Belmont Stakes were named after August Belmont nineteenth century. He made history as the very first President of the Jockey Club in 1867. Belmont started organizing races in California in 1853, and bred race horses in Franklin, Ohio. 

Not many people know this, but the Belmont is actually oldest of the Triple Crown events. Its first running was in 1867 at Jerome Park and it is the fourth oldest race overall in North America.

Belmont Park will be at capacity of 85,000 to 90,000 people and he excitement is bound to be electric. Betting will no doubt be as hot and some sites like Bodog.com already offer odds on the race.
