Liverpool quietly enter the Europa League tomorrow when Romanian champions Unirea Urziceni travel to Anfield Road. And whilst there is little fanfare being made about the event, Liverpool are actually the 6/1 betting favourites to win the tournament.

The Reds are quickly becoming by far the most backed team in the tournament ahead of the likes of Juventus, Valencia and local neighbours Everton. Whilst Liverpool are at odds of 4/1 for a shock exit in this round to Unirea Paddy Power actually make the next round as their most likely stage of elimination at 5/2.

Darren Haines, spokesman for the bookmaker, said: “The UEFA Cup in all but name may not be the trophy Liverpool fans expect to be competing for but it is the one they expect to win with betting on the market virtually a one horse race since Rafa’s team dropped down into the tournament after their Champions League exit.”

For the match itself Liverpool are just 2/7 for a win at Anfield with bookies expecting a dominant performance for the occasionally shot shy reds. Paddy Power offer betting odds of 3/1 Liverpool pepper the Unirea goal with nine or ten shots on target whilst it is a less likely 14/1 they manage a meager four or less.
