(Associated Press) – Gov. Chris Christie has extended deadline for a commission he created to deliver its report on ways to fix New Jersey’s troubled gaming, sports and entertainment industries.

The report, originally to be done by July 1, is now due on Aug. 1.

The panel was ordered to examine what to do with the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority. The authority oversees the Meadowlands sports complex, the Izod Center, the Xanadu retail and entertainment complex, and the state’s horse racing industry.

CNN looking to boost ratings with controversial show co-host, Eliot Spitzer

He once declared war on Internet gambling, then on prostitution rings.  Eventually, he started using brothels himself.  Eliot Spitzer was forced out as New York’s Governor.  Now he’s back and bigger than ever before.  Spitzer has been signed on to co-host a new CNN program.

He’ll be paired with conservative political columnist Kathleen Parker.

Spitzer and Parker will be replacing Campbell Brown at the 8 pm hour.

In 2003, then Attorney General Eliot Spitzer went after 10 banks, claiming they were in cahoots with online gambling.  He also forced PayPal to stop doing business with the industry.

The reports focus on a recent Labour Court finding that the gambling company should reverse its decision to cut staff overtime and public holidays pay rates from treble the normal salary to double in the case of public holidays, and to time-and-a-half for Sundays.

The bookmaker cut pay rates for Sundays and bank holidays after experiencing a 90% drop in profits last year, one newspaper reported.

Speaking this week on an earnings call, Spanoudakis said he anticipates that internet sports betting will be a fact of life in Greece a year hence, in May 2011.

“With regards to online gaming regulation, the government has already engaged with us in discussions,” the gambling exec revealed.

Rousso resurrected the Betcha.com case as an example of the law’s inequitable and sweeping nature in the appeal case of Rousso v. Washington State, supported by a small but vociferous demonstration outside the court by Poker Players Alliance members.

Rousso will probably have to wait for months for a decision on the case as he attempts to strike down the state’s harsh law against online poker.

Washington law allows people to go to land casinos to play poker, but won’t let them play it online in their homes on pain of serious Class C felony punishment.

A one time ferocious opponent of the online gambling industry, Eliot Spitzer, is being considered as host of a new debate show like "Crossfire" to replace anchor Campbell Brown’s 8 pm EST time slot.

Brown announced on Wednesday that she will be stepping down as anchor during that hour due to low ratings.

"Simply put, the ratings for my program are not where I would like them to be," Brown said in a statement released Tuesday.

National gross gambling revenues fell to $30.7 billion in 2009, a decrease of 5.5 percent from 2008.

It marked the second consecutive year of declining casino revenues due to the recession and consumers’ cutting back on discretionary and leisure spending, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. 

Atlantic City fared the worst.  It saw revenue drop 13.3 percent.

Nevada, including Las Vegas, was down 10.4 percent.

"This past year was tough for all Americans, and it was tough for our business as well," said Frank J. Fahrenkopf Jr., president and CEO of the gaming association. &

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The Supreme Court on Monday rejected a Delaware appeal that argued the state should be allowed to offer a new sports betting lottery to generate revenue to help ease its record budget deficit.

The justices without comment let stand a ruling by a U.S. appeals court that a 1992 federal law prohibits Delaware from offering betting on individual games in all major sports.

The appeals court ruled in August that Delaware was limited to parlay betting, or gambling on multiple games, and only on National Football League contests.
